    At the Humanoids Summit, Red Rabbit Robotics unveiled RX1, a humanoid robot capable of taking on repetitive, dirty, and dangerous tasks. Unlike traditional industrial automation, RX1 is designed to serve a wide range of industries, addressing labor shortages and high employee turnover by offering an affordable and scalable solution.

    Co-founders Lingkang Zhang and David Goldberg envision RX1 as a game-changer for businesses struggling to hire and retain workers for mundane tasks. “We’re building autonomous labor as a service,” Goldberg explained, aiming to cut labor costs in half while delivering increased productivity.

    Zero to Fully Autonomous: A Phased Approach

    Red Rabbit’s approach to deployment is rooted in practicality. Initially, RX1 robots are teleoperated by human operators, allowing for real-world testing and UX refinement. Over time, the company plans to transition to semi-autonomous and eventually fully autonomous operation.

    Goldberg emphasized that this staged approach ensures reliability for early customers. “We’re focused on getting something that works for the customer now, rather than perfecting tech in a lab.”

    Breaking Cost Barriers

    Affordability is key to Red Rabbit’s vision. While many robots in the industry cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, RX1 is targeted at $20,000 per unit, making it accessible for businesses of all sizes. This low-cost strategy not only encourages adoption but also generates diverse operational data to improve robot capabilities over time.

    “We need to drive the cost down to $20,000,” Goldberg said. “Adoption in the wild feeds your data flywheel, allowing us to enhance functionality and reliability.”

    Addressing Labor Shortages and Scaling the Future

    As industries face increasing labor shortages, with an estimated 1.9 million manufacturing jobs unfilled by 2033, RX1 offers a timely solution. Robots working 24/7 can deliver triple the productivity of human workers, alleviating workforce gaps and reducing costs.

    Goldberg highlighted the broader impact: “This technology enables people to focus on meaningful work while robots handle repetitive tasks. It’s about making work safer and more efficient.”
