- Market Expansion: ByteDance joins other Chinese tech companies like Kuaishou and Zhipu AI in the burgeoning text-to-video market.
ByteDance, the parent company of the popular short video app TikTok, has made a significant move in the AI-driven content creation space with the launch of Jimeng AI. This new text-to-video software aims to compete directly with similar tools from tech giants like OpenAI and Google. Developed by Faceu Technology, a subsidiary of ByteDance’s Jianying business known for its video editing app CapCut, Jimeng AI is now available on the Apple App Store for Chinese users.
Jimeng AI offers a range of user-friendly features designed to make video and image creation accessible and intuitive. Users can describe their ideas in natural language, and the software will generate unique pictures and videos accordingly. The app includes editing features to refine these creations and supports multiple attempts to achieve the desired outcome. Users can share their creations via links, browse and appreciate other users’ works on the Explore page, and even reproduce and customize other users’ works using their own prompts.
The launch of Jimeng AI follows a trend among Chinese tech firms entering the AI video generation market. In recent months, companies like Kuaishou and Zhipu AI have introduced their own text-to-video models. Kuaishou, one of China’s largest video apps, launched its Kling AI text-to-video model to a global audience, while Zhipu AI released its video-generating model Ying. Another startup, Shengshu, also launched its Vidu app shortly after.
Jimeng AI offers monthly subscriptions starting at 69 Yuan (approximately $10), with options including 79 Yuan ($11) for a single month or 659 Yuan ($90) annually. These plans allow users to generate around 2,050 images or 168 AI videos per month, making it a competitively priced option in the market.
ByteDance’s entry into the AI video generation space highlights the rapid growth and competitive nature of this emerging market. With tools like Jimeng AI, users have more options than ever to create and share high-quality video content, potentially transforming how content is produced and consumed globally.
